DIY: Herbal Dye Gift Bags

    As we come upon the season for gifts and giving, searching for earth-friendly, natural, and beautiful packaging can be a bit of a challenge.  It is so nice to have something lovely and useful for sharing homemade tea blends, potpourri, or edible holiday treats, so we challenged ourselves to see what we could create. We used just a handful of herbs to dye our 100% cotton muslin bags and turned to the Handbook of Natural Dyes, by Sasha Duerr for inspiration.  Since these gift and goodie bags won’t need to stand up to washings and wearings, as clothes would, we opted for simplified process for our dyeing project.  This could easily be adapted to dye cotton cloth for wrapping or larger fabric gift bags.   Here’s how we made these adorable bags:     Dye Ingredients & Supplies  1 cup Madder Root 1 cup Turmeric Root powder 1 […]

A Menopausal Journey: Desperately Seeking…Sleep!

As much as I wish I could simply open a book or do an internet search and find all the answers to my Menopausal challenges, I’m learning that my version of what I’m calling my “ transition” is as unique as I am. I am not interested in masking or pretending that I am not getting older, but I wouldn’t mind finding a little relief and learning some new ways to cope with these inevitable changes. Fortunately, there are some wonderful resources available, and I’ve come up with a few of my own solutions for the realities of how mid-life is shaking out for me. We are also debuting a new format for our beloved 68 page catalog this time around! The whimsical design allows us more space to share our products, herbal recipes, and photos, with much better print quality for easier reading. We truly hope you love thumbing through it as much as we do. As always, we print on post-consumer waste paper with eco-friendly inks so you can recycle the cover and compost the rest, although we hope you’ll keep it around for awhile or share it with a friend.
