New in the Shop: Certified Organic Coriander Seed Essential Oil

Our New Year’s resolution is always to offer more certified organic botanicals for our customers! We are pleased to proclaim that our Coriander Seed Essential Oil is now certified organic. Steam distilled by skilled artisans, our certified organic coriander seed essential oil has a sweet, spicy, woodsy aroma with a slightly fruity top note. Generally used as a middle note in aromatherapy blends, this oil combines well with some of our favorite essential oils, including organic cinnamon, organic ginger, organic neroli, and organic Australian sandalwood. The unique aroma of this oil is fun to play with while blending. It can support citrus notes, enhance spicy blends, and add an interesting earthy tone to other oils. DIY: Yoga Mat Spray Recipe

When I lived in Culver City, California, I had a free membership to a small yoga studio, which was a lovely perk of working in the neighborhood. This precious little studio had just a few teachers who knew each student personally, and my practice there was guided through many special moments. Not only was this studio filled with people who were kind, open, and understanding of the journey, they also curated the front room with the most incredible handmade, earth-conscious products. They offered beautiful pink rose amethyst to ground and bring love to your life, they sold sustainably crafted yoga wearables, and a wonderful bottle of all-natural yoga mat cleaner that I fell in love with despite its price.  That bottle of organic witch hazel mixed with organic essential oils worked incredibly well. Cleansing my mat with this spritz of aromatherapy became part of my practice. Unrolling my mat and inhaling the fresh scent brought me back to where I was when I left the studio – a moment of peace, clarity, and […]

  • Winter Solstice Essential Oil Blend

Winter Solstice Essential Oil Blend

My memories of December take me back to a white farmhouse in the middle of grass seed fields, with my four brothers and one sister, poking ribs and making jokes around the wood stove. If we were lucky, we'd be surrounded by snow and immersed in the scents of our winter home. There's nothing I love more than the aroma of solstice spices, the most beautiful tree all lit up, and the warmth of a wood stove. A tradition in our house every year was making cute little gingerbread decorations for our yule tree. This essential oil blend is an ode to those sweet and cozy moments, hanging freshly made decorations with the crackling of wood tickling my ears from the next room. I like Douglas Fir essential oil in this recipe, but your favorite tree scent will work just fine too! A little sweetness from benzoin resin essential oil or vanilla absolute will help bring out the spicy notes of […]

5 Tips for Preserving Handcrafted & Natural Bodycare Products

As more people look to natural, organic, and GMO-free alternatives for skin, body, and healthcare, it can be hard to know how to create safe alternatives to store bought products. Some of the questions that come up again and again are about preservatives and how to extend the shelf-life of your homemade goodies.  One of the reasons many of us are trying to get away from conventional shampoos, soaps, pastes, and cleaners is that they contain synthetic ingredients used to increase the shelf-life up to months or even years. Those ingredients can cause allergic reactions, may be drying or irritating, and could potentially be linked to some rather unsavory health problems. We know we don’t want to slather those ingredients on our bodies, but are we afraid of life without preservatives? Let's get to the bottom of this… As a rule, water-based creations will have a much shorter shelf-life than oil and butter-based ones, because water breeds life! […]

  • Camping Spray with Herbs

Make Your Own Wild Adventure Shower Spray

While I have stayed in full-service campgrounds, I prefer to camp as far away from civilization as possible. You know, hiking in and hiding out! This means no showers (although dips in lakes, creeks, and streams are awesome), so I always bring a lovely-scented spritz on my adventures. This spray was created to complement the wild experience, not compete with it. If you’re looking for fruity florals, you can formulate one easily with different essential oils. If you are hoping to keep some of the bugs at bay and still smell on the fresh side, this is your mix! Spray prior to getting dressed in the morning or after a mountain swim. This shower spray goes quite well with other wonderful camping scents too, like campfire smoke and conifers in the breeze…     Wild Adventures Camp Shower Spray Ingredients 2 oz organic catnip hydrosol 2 oz organic witch hazel extract 10 drops organic eucalyptus […]

  • Surely Spring Air Freshener and Diffuser

DIY: Purely Spring Essential Oil Blend Recipe

Here in the Pacific Northwest, winters tend to be damp, cold and…damp. Rooms can get a little heavy on the moist and stuffy after a few rainy months. Opening the windows only tends to let more of the wet stuff inside! I created this blend to use in both our nebulizer and the aroma mist diffuser, but it works great in a small diffuser or diluted in water for a room or linen spray. Since, I don't have any formal aromatherapy training, I like to combine what I think of as different "families" of oils–something herbal, something fruity, something spicy, and something from the wonderful world of trees. These scent combinations are fresh and garden-like, without being too floral and the combination has a very rounded scent–making one want to take nice deep breaths of the fresh air! The Lemongrass is fruity and citrussy, but not the slightest bit […]
